Algae can help ethanol plants become more environmentally friendly

ETHANOL PLANTS

Ethanol plants produce significant amounts of CO2 through the ethanol production process. The USA and Brazil produce more than 70% of the world's ethanol; the U.S. supply comes mainly from corn, while Brazil taps its abundant sugarcane crop.

Algae requires long exposure to light and a warm climate to grow rapidly. Accordingly, tropical locations such as those in Brazil are more suited to take advantage of HR BioPetroleum's algae technology. Most of Brazil's ethanol plants are located in warmer climates near the sugar cane feedstock.

In 2007, Brazil produced over 5 billion gallons of ethanol, second only to the U.S.
